Heathcliff will take you to an dark, indie, art-house movie, maybe something French, and at the end of the night, you will stammer something about how “the juxtaposition of light and dark creates interesting implications about the, uh, innate goodness of all man–that is to say–personkind?” He’ll glare and call the entire film “overwrought nonsense,” and make you feel stupid for even trying not to look stupid. But then he will call you five times the next day, so maybe he does like you? But then he will start going out with your best friend, so maybe he doesn’t? He’s really hard to pin down.

Alex Day reads like us!

Figment:
Have you ever lied about having read a book to impress someone? (If yes, what was the book and why?)
Alex Day:
Not exactly…I’ve occasionally had books on my shelf that I pretty much knew I’d never read, but that I thought made me look cool. One that stands out from when I was just becoming a teenager was LATIN FOR DUMMIES–for some reason, I didn’t understand that the ‘for dummies’ meant it wasn’t impressive, cos it showed I didn’t know any Latin even if I was reading it, but what can you do.
Figment:
What’s the one book that would be a deal-breaker if you saw it on a date’s bookshelf?
Alex:
Well, it used to be TWILIGHT, but I’ve found that most of the people who read it are aware it’s bad and it’s a guilty pleasure book. So I’m gonna say TWILIGHT, if the person loves it and isn’t familiar with the wider context of its inanity.

Where’s the windswept, bouffant silhouette? It’s been replaced with a ’90s flip-front hairstyle that makes us get all kind of N*Sync nostalgic. How could he get a haircut?
